While some enjoy praying the Stations of the Cross while hiking up the side of the mountain, others may appreciate the less invigorating, but still beautiful Franciscan Way. This walk takes you into a natural high valley with stations that allow you to pray over the life of St. Francis. The walk ends at the Three Crosses, which depict Christ’s Crucifixion flanked by the two thieves. Beyond this is a meditation shelter with a bench. The next and final trail head boasts a relatively flat walk until near its end when it climbs steeply up to Contemplation Rock beyond which is Meditation Point and the life-size Cross that crowns the end of the Stations of the Cross described above.
A short way in on this trail there is a path that leads onto yet another trail to St. Therese’s Shrine and ends near the beginning of the Franciscan Way. Those who prefer not to walk along the road to the trail head for the Franciscan Way often use this as a short cut.
